The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) is a government agency responsible for hiring and administering provincial civil services and management services in the Punjab Province of Pakistan. The Punjab Public Service Commission conducts the provincial competitive exam known as the Punjab Public Service Competitive Examination (PPSC) in Punjab to select candidates for various civil services in province, such as the Punjab Administrative Service, Punjab Revenue Service, Punjab Police Service, and others. Types of PPSC exams in Punjab Pakistan
PPSC conducts two types of papers:
- General recruitment
- PMS (Provisional Management Service)

General recruitment PPSC paper
The general recruitment paper is for different jobs in different departments of Punjab such as assistant director, inspector, sub-inspector, and lectureship. The general recruitment can be in form from either of these two:
- Job-specific paper
- One paper on general ability
a) How to Prepare for PPSC exams (General Recruitment)?
Job-specific paper is a subject-related paper for jobs related to a subject. In Job-specific papers, 100 MCQs have weightage, 80 MCQs from the subject while 20 MCQs are related to general knowledge. One paper on general ability has 100 MCQs all related to General Knowledge including Pakistan Studies, Current Affairs, Islamic Studies (Ethics for Non-Muslim candidates), Geography, Basic Mathematics, English, Urdu, Everyday Science, and Basic Computer Studies. b) How to prepare for PPSC Exam (PMS – Provisional Management Service)
For PMS there is a total of 12 papers both subjective and objective. 6 papers are compulsory while 6 are optional subjects. For optional papers, there are seven groups of total 30 subjects each of 200 marks and a candidate has to choose 3 of the optional subjects.
Schedule and stages of PPSC examination
Candidates studying for the PPSC exam will follow a detailed exam schedule established by PPSC. Currently, the stages are divided into three which are prelims, mains, and interview round. Students must ensure that they are completely familiar with the PPSC exam pattern as they study for the exam. Candidates who wish to be hired through the Punjab Public Service Commission must pass all three exam stages. NOTE:
- Negative Marking will be done and 0.25 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer in the Objective (MCQ) paper of General Knowledge.
- Non-Muslim candidates have the option either to attempt a paper on Islamic Studies or “Ethics” (A combination of both Subjective & Objective).
- All the candidates shall take all the compulsory subjects.

Instructions on how to prepare for PPSC Exam:
- The minimum standard for the question papers will be of Graduate Level.
- The candidate shall have to obtain 40% marks in each paper and 50% marks in the aggregate i.e., 600 marks to qualify for the interview. Thereafter, the candidate shall also secure 50% marks in the interview to be held eligible for the final merit list of successful candidates.
